Football 2009

Just wanted to post a few pictures of my son Matt & his flag football "career" for 2009.  He played really well--the whole team did--especially considering some of the days they had to play were freezing!

Matt's #1 fan...his little brother Kevin, all bundled up to watch the game on a cold Saturday morning

Matt on the field, ready for a play

(Gotta love sports mode on the camera!)

Poll answer...

My last poll question asked "which is the most common form of poisioning...ingestion, inhalation, or absorption through the skin?"  All votes said ingestion...

Answer: Inhalation!
Most people think of "ingestion" when they think of poisoning. Although this is common, poisoning by inhalation is actually more common. I was surprised to learn this!

When something harmful is swallowed, the stomach actually begins breaking down and neutralizing the poison before it is absorbed through the blood stream.

But when you inhale toxic fumes, the poisons go directly into the bloodstream and quickly travel to organs like the brain, heart, liver, and kidneys. We breathe 10-20 thousand liters of air every day! Many products in the stores give off toxic vapors that can irritate your eyes, nose, throat, and lungs, give you headaches, muscle aches, and sinus infections.

Scary--especially when you think that the cleaners & disinfectants we use can leave lingering toxins in the air for days...sometimes weeks...after we use them!  Check out the warning on the back of a Cascade dishwasher detergent bottle--it says "do not breathe fumes."  So the steam coming out of your dishwasher carries the toxins in the detergent into your air, which you & your family then inhale!  Scary!

Isn't it time to make your home a healthier home?

Halloween Layout

Halloween layout (designs from the Reflections book)
Enchanted paper pack, Autumn Terracota, Sunflower, Black & Garden Green.
Stamp sets are Spooky Smiles & Merry Monsters.

Left page

The "B" is from the Rustic Alphabet set.
The "O"s are pumpkins from the Spooky Smiles set...the faces are embossed using a VersaMark ink pad & black embossing powder.

The monsters are colored in using CTMH's coordinating markers.

The right pages uses a couple of different techniques to make our own backgrounds...
On the far left...1/4" strips of B&T paper are spaced out over the black
In the middle...random stamping (1st & 2nd generation of tone-on-tone stamping)
Far right...hole punched the Sunflower CS to allow the black to show through

I used black grosgrain ribbon w/ garden green brads...
I also tied a ribbon knot w/ sunflower waxy flax tied through it to create a way to hold the monster tag.

Who have you hugged today?

Found this on a medical website...love it!

RATIONALE OF HUGGING

Hugging:

• Feels good.

• Dispels loneliness.

• Overcomes fears.

• Opens doors to feelings.

• Builds self-esteem; (“Wow! She actually wants to hug me!”).

• Fosters altruism; (“I can’t believe it, but I actually want to hug that old son-of-agun!”).

• Slows down aging; huggers stay younger longer.

• Helps curb appetite; we eat less when we are nourished by hugs—and when our arms are

busy wrapped around others.

• Eases tension.

• Fights insomnia.

• Keeps arm and shoulder muscles in condition.

• Provides stretching exercise if you are short.

• Provides stooping exercise if you are tall.

• Offers a wholesome alternative to promiscuity.

• Offers a healthy, safe alternative to alcohol and other drug abuse (better hugs than drugs!).

• Affirms physical being.

• Is democratic; anyone is eligible for a hug.

• Is ecologically sound.

• Is energy-efficient; saves heat.

• Is portable.

• Requires no special equipment.

• Demands no special setting; anyplace from a doorstep to an executive conference room,

from a church parlor to a football field, is a fine place for a hug!

• Makes happy days happier.

• Makes impossible days possible.

• Imparts feeling of belonging.

• Fills up empty places in our lives.

• Keeps on working to dispense benefits even after the hug’s release.

A Fall Lay-out

 A fall layout

Uses paper leaves with New England Ivy, Barn Red, Autumn Terracota, & Desert Sand cardstocks--perfect fall colors!

Twill ribbon held on with coordinating bigger brads adds a simple accent to the page.
The journaling spot says "Matt raked a big pile of leaves & both boys had fun jumping & running through the leaves.  Kevin loves to sit in his sled & get pulled in the yard.  Luckily, Matt was happy to help him out!"

Answer to poll question

The last poll question I had on my blog asked what percentage of children's poisonings take place in the home? Responses were tied between 50% or 93%.

The answer...a shocking 93% of poisoning involving children take place in our own homes! Scary! Most poisonings in the home happen between 4-10 pm., which makes sense--it's when our children are home from school or daycare. And most homes are filled with items that make poisoning a high risk.

Cast your vote for the current poll...and be sure to check back for the answer...as well as more art & family pics.

Have a blessed day!

Family layout...It's a Guy Thing paper

This lay-out is from the Reflections book & uses the It's a Guy Thing paper pack...I love the deep, fall colors in this paper. It was perfect for the outdoor family pictures we had done at Giant Springs State Park in Great Falls, MT right before we moved.
Our neighbor at Malmstrom AFB was a photographer. She did these photos for us shortly before we moved so we could have some nice family pictures in beautiful MT.

Dimensional Elements alphabet set spells out "Jefferson"

A Thought for Today...

This just came in my inbox, and I thought it was worth sharing.

The Charlie Schulz Philosophy
The following is the philosophy of Charles Schulz, the creator of the 'Peanuts' comic strip. You don't have to actually answer the questions. Just ponder on them.Just read the e-mail straight through, and you'll get the point.
1. Name the five wealthiest people in the world.
2. Name the last five Heisman trophy winners.
3. Name the last five winners of the Miss America pageant.
4 Name ten people who have won the Nobel or Pulitzer Prize.
5. Name the last half dozen Academy Award winners for best actor and actress.
6. Name the last decade's worth of World Series wi nners.
How did you do?

The point is, none of us remember the headliners of yesterday.
These are no second-rate achievers.
They are the best in their fields.
But the applause dies..
Awards tarnish..
Achievements are forgotten.
Accolades and certificates are buried with their owners.
Here's another quiz. See how you do on this one:
1. List a few teachers who aided your journey through school.
2. Name three friends who have helped you through a difficult time.
3. Name five people who have taught you something worthwhile.
4. Think of a few people who have made you feel appreciated and special.
5. Think of five people you enjoy spending time with.
Easier?
The lesson: The people who make a difference in your life are not the ones with the
most credentials, the most money...or the most awards.
They simply are the ones who care the most.
